To check the directors of an Irish company, search the company by name or CRO number on Businesses.ie or core.cro.ie. The directors section of the company profile lists every current and former director, along with their appointment and resignation dates. Director information in Ireland is public record under the Companies Act 2014.
Two ways to check
1. By company
- Search for the company on Businesses.ie.
- Open the profile and scroll to the Directors section.
- You'll see the name, role, appointment date and (if applicable) resignation date.
2. By person
Use the director search to find every company a person has been a director of — current and resigned, across all 800,000+ Irish companies. This is the standard approach for due diligence on a named individual.
What's public and what isn't
- Public: Name, nationality, occupation, appointment and resignation dates, list of associated companies.
- Not public (since 2023): Residential address. A service address may be displayed instead.
Red flags to look for
- A director associated with multiple struck-off or dissolved companies
- Very recent appointment to an old, established company (possible change of control)
- Director count below the legal minimum (1 for LTD, 2 for DAC/PLC/CLG/UC)
- Sole director who is also the secretary — legal for LTD but reduces oversight
